IN, ON, AT

As you may know I am Hispanic. My first language is Spanish, I went to a Spanish based school, in Puerto Rico we prefer to watch the Simpsons in Spanish than in English (In fact they are a lot better) and in childhood we watch Los Cariñositos (Carebears) Los pitufos (The Smurfs) y Los Picapiedras (The Flinstones). While I learned English at some point in my life that I can't remember, is normal for me to have some difficulties with some parts of the language.

Actually I am blessed to know both languages, even when most Puerto Ricans, know English, there are still some that doesn't have a clue.

The majority of my group of friends knows English, at least the basics. But when one of my best friends, Ali, introduce to the group her all gringo, Wisconsinite boyfriend, of course some communications problems emerge. But we are fo'sure a shameless, happy, group of friends, so we made lemonade with the lemons.

Of course, everything start very proper, but then comes the bad words theme, the sex theme, the what do I say if I need to... theme and it went on and on and on...
Until we get to the always impossible to understand the have, has, had and the in, on, at.

Poor Wisconsinite guy, we have no mercy at all I am pretty sure he went to his house thinking Oh My God, your friends have some serious mental problems.

But the thing is that he in fact, teach us something I will never forget. While we were making him crazy with the in, on, at. He said, OK think it like this.

You want to do it IN the bathroom, ON the toilet, AT night.
Do you? ;-)
