Let's talk about FOOD

Let's talk about food. This would be your hint to my food experiences. Like I told you in my recipe I come from a food lover family and I have a food lover Boyfriend who happens to be a sous chef in a fancy restaurant here in the Island. So pretty much, for me happiness= great food. I am not bragging when I tell you that I have experienced some of the most perfect, good food in the world and also, I like to cook.

So I decided that I will start taking pictures and letting you, my friends, know me through my food choices. And the journey begins with El Ñaqui. Let me tell you how I discover this place. I work in a office building that is surrounded by nothing to eat, except rice and beans or fast crappy food. So usually I bring my own lunch. Either I make it or the BF. But sometimes I am to busy in school or work or enjoying some beer with my friends and that keeps me far from the kitchen. Is in those moments when I have to be very cautious with my lunch selection, giving the fact that I have 1 hour in this crazy traffic to buy, eat, enjoy and come back. So one day I found this.

This little bus is equipped with all the deliciousness you can imagine. The theme is something like oriental infused street food, with a fancy twist and accessibility. The first time, I went directly to the plate that gives the name to the place, the ñaquis.

(In pueltoricanese this means a small bite of food) And in El Ñaqui, it means a small round bread filled with either pork, chicken or skirt steak, spicy dressing, pickled vegetables, chives and some other goodness. Dear GOD! Is so yummy, you could die. But don't die. They have plenty of more goodness.
Each day they have a selection of a soup and salads and let me tell you. Let me tell you that if you want me to be happy, you give me soup and bread and I will have your kids!!!!

This soups are not only DELISH! they are so different, so healthy, so hearty, ohhh Mamma is sooo sooo happy. You don't even imagine what it means to me, to get out of this hectic office of mine drive or walk (it depends on the weather)to this bus and ask for the soups. I can hear the angels singing to me (meaning the girl who takes my order) We have yautía and salmon soup or Today's soup is a pumpkin sweet potato mix

Then they have a salad. You know, when you have this weekend full of fattening meals and lots of drinks and your body is telling you to have something healthy or the Gods of obesity will track you down? Well here is the best alternative. Wait! THE ONLY one. They have some mexican salad, but don't get distracted, go directly to the house salad. A magnificent combination of mixed greens (aka roman lettuce ;)) green, red and orange peppers, walnuts, the perfect amount of goat cheese, grapes, watermelon, red onion, and your selection of meat. In this case, follow my lead and go with the chicken. If you are like me. I like chicken and salad but not chicken IN my salad. So, I ask politely to the angel in the counter to put my chicken separately and she does and she gives me this little bowl of dressing. A white vinaigrette dressing that is not overwhelming, is not creamy and will not go to your chicho. Combine that with the soup and you have this: TA-DA!!!
Need a close up right?

So, to end with this post and let you know, what makes this place the perfect spot for my lunch. The selections of drinks here are completely crazy. When I feel like killing someone, I have the urge to drink some alcohol. You know is a balance thing in my body. And since I am working that is unobtainable so I go to the next best thing. And this my friend, is called simply as the Izze.

This combination of grape, apple, clementine and sparkling water makes me feel like I have my mimosa and the world is mine. Oh and it doesn't have refined sugar. Not that I care, but just in case you do.

I will like to get to know that chef and tell him: You got me at the first Ñaqui. But if I don't I will like him to know that Boy, your soups and salads are so good that it makes me want to cry.

So I know what you're thinking: this girl started saying something about the best food in the world and is talking shit about a street restaurant. But you know what? I don't care. This place is amazing and when I tell you that. You better believe me and if you don't well I still don't care, I have my sparkling mimosa with me and the world is mine.
