Maybe you can relate that to the fact that there are a lot of musicians in my family. My grandfather was a musician. A "trovador" hey, he has a little itsy Plaza in his hometown. I did not have the chance to meet him, since he died long before I was born. But my dad and uncles all played some instruments and I personally grew up singing "parrandas" in Christmas and let me tell you I know a lot of Christmas songs. I love them. Sometimes I wake up my boyfriend singing Christmas songs and NO it doesn't matter if its April or July. I like to do that and he says he hate it, but I know he doesn't :P
My mother, well she is a walking juke box. Regarding to music in spanish, she knows pretty much every lyric by memory. We sing a lot. And if I have doubts with a song, and I can't sleep because of my OCD/ADD/ syndrome, I call her, sing some and she will tell me the original author, the origins and some details from that year... :)
In general and I don't know why I like songs that have sad feelings, broken hearts, dark sides in their lyrics. Ok, I am not talking about metallica or hard rock songs that sings about suicide or anything. But for me, if an author can make you feel what he/she felt in the moment of writing, well that's just awesome.
In the office I always find a way to have some music while I work. I pretty much have an account in every internet radio station, music or video provider so if one is under construction or having problems one day, I can try another one. Also, I have to be clear in what I want to hear in the day. Because you can find one page like Pandora, they have a nice selection of Spanish/Latino singers and they have the lyrics button (that is amazing). But i hate that you have a certain amount of hours to play or that you can go back to repeat a song.
Youtube play lists are nice, but if your workplace is like mine with the restrictions on internet, you probably have that site blocked. I used to listen Songza. But I banned them from my life. They were sooooo slow! OMG I hate that sometimes the songs were loading for what it looks to be hours in Internet time.
There I have Slacker, they are good. They have a nice variety in English and Spanish. The don't usually stop frequently and while they have a time limit, is very wide so I barely have make it to the advise that your time limit is approaching Also they have a BlackBerry app, but really, that one sucks! Lately I have been using Grooveshark. I have to say that I love it. My friend recommended the site and you know what? You can go back and forward to a song and you can repeat it on and on and on. You can upload music if you want, although I haven't try that.
I have different play lists in a wide variety but lately this are the songs that I have been listening A LOT:
Dreaming with a broken heart-John Mayer
Jar of Hearts- Christina Perri (darling please, submit yourself to the studio ASAP)
You Lost Me- Christina Aguilera
Glass- Ingrid Michaelson (LOVE HER!)
Details in the Fabric-Jason Mraz (Genius)
Gravity- Sarah Bareilles (AH-Mazing)
Never Leave your heart alone- Butterfly Boucher
Please don't leave me- Pink (OK She's just brilliant)
Please take into consideration that this is office music. I can't have the Rihanna, Katy Perry, Jay Z kind of mood here. But can you spot the darkness!? Geez! Quoting Grey's Anatomy "I am dark and twisty"
Well, that's it for me. And you? Are you musical? Do you have any music related web page? Let me know, I am sure I can subscribe to another one...
